Quarantine Zone, the zombie checkpoint simulator from Brigada Games, now has a free expansion called Miami Zero that rewinds the story to the first days of the outbreak. It is available on Xbox Series X|S and PC, including through Xbox and PC Game Pass, at no charge to anyone who already owns the base game.

Game director Egor Zaitsev puts the scale in Brigada Games' own account: regular updates have shipped since the January launch, and Miami Zero is "by far the biggest chunk of new stuff yet." The expansion adds more than 30 unique survivors, each with distinct voice lines, appearances and quirks, along with new body types and animations.

At the time of writing, Xbox's U.S. store listing for the base game, Quarantine Zone: The Last Check, shows $12.99 against a $19.99 list price. That is $7 off, a 35 percent cut. The listing, which names Devolver Digital, does not say how long the lower price runs.

The inspection work in Quarantine Zone changes more than the scenery. Players now screen for suspicious scars, rotten organs and stomach parasites, and Miami adds a second job: finding drugs that survivors hide under hats, swallow or palm. Brigada Games describes that as "a whole extra layer of inspection gameplay" on top of the original checkpoint routine. A new research center lets players experiment on the infected, which can produce mutants that could threaten the checkpoint's safety. A separate quest, spread across the campaign, has players repair a ship and sail away, and some infected survivors can be fed to sharks.

Quarantine Zone's new setting gets its own systems too. A dynamic weather system cycles through sunshine, dust storms and tropical rain, and new locations include a pier, city streets and a music festival, with upgraded environmental audio. Brigada Games says it also tweaked and improved the original campaign.

For lapsed Quarantine Zone players the expansion costs nothing but a reinstall; anyone who never bought the game can pay the listed $12.99 or play it through Game Pass.
