The Avatar State Patch is the biggest update Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game has seen, according to developer Gameplay Group. It redesigns the menus and in-match interface, rebuilds two fighters, adds Ranked Mode 2.0 and changes the balance of every one of the game's 12 characters, from Aang to Zaheer. The patch went live on Steam on Oct 28 and on Xbox Series X|S on Oct 30.

Avatar Aang and Nightmare Korra get new art, attacks and super moves, and the team took them in opposite directions. Art director Santiago R. Villa calls Aang's new pose solemn and imposing and Korra's languid and elusive. He also says Aang is the only fighter in the game lit from below, to make him look mysterious and boss-like. Aang's new Level 4 super, Roku's Inferno, has him call on the spirit world and turn into Roku, who engulfs the arena in fire. Combat director Young says early prototypes drained Nightmare Korra's health constantly to represent mercury poisoning, which did not make for interesting play, so she starts with less health instead.

Gameplay Group singles out two of the biggest balance shifts. Per Paramount Games, Azula's Ambition's Spark, a Focused Stance move, now tracks the opponent when Joo Dee is her support, and its detonation is much larger and can be flow canceled. With Master Piandao as his support, Sokka can now cancel sword attacks into boomerang attacks under certain circumstances, which Paramount Games says costs two Sword Levels on the ground and three in the air. Gameplay Group says 10 stacks of successful sword hits unlock the ability for the rest of the match.

The patch also adds Story Mode+, new tutorials and Combo Trials, and Story stages in Versus matches. Story Mode gains difficulty settings and reworked visual hints that Paramount Games says are meant to help newcomers learn, and Arcade Mode adds Novice, Intermediate and Expert CPU difficulty. Ranked play now runs as first-to-3 sets, and leaving a set early brings a penalty.

The game is available on PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, and a physical release is planned for 2027; Paramount Games says availability varies by region.

In the US, the Standard Edition costs $29.99 and the Deluxe Edition $49.99. The Deluxe Edition adds the Year 1 Pass of five extra characters, plus a digital art book, the soundtrack and unique HUDs. Iroh, Ty Lee, Lin Beifong and Bolin are confirmed. Anyone who pre-ordered the game, or buys or upgrades to the Deluxe Edition, gets a vote on the fifth character from Tenzin, Kuvira, Amon, King Bumi and Asami Sato, and Deluxe pre-orders get two. Voting runs for one month through an option on the main menu.
