Mafia III: Definitive Edition now has native PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions that run at 60 frames per second, and its PC build picked up a Steam patch, per 2K. The open-world crime game launched on October 7, 2016, and 2K used its tenth birthday to pair a PC cleanup with versions built for current consoles.

The console builds are the headline for most players. On those consoles Mafia III: Definitive Edition holds 60 frames per second in play, and many cutscenes are rendered in real time and follow suit. Some are pre-rendered movies that stay at 30 frames per second, so the frame rate shifts during certain story beats. 2K also lists fixes for Trophy and Achievement tracking, stuck mission checkpoints, lighting and vegetation streaming artifacts, and map and waypoint icons. It describes this as part of a wider push to bring the Mafia: The Omertà Collection to current hardware.

Ownership rules decide who pays. Anyone holding a PS4 copy, physical or digital, receives the digital PS5 version of Mafia III: Definitive Edition free, and Xbox One digital owners get the Series X|S version the same way. Xbox One disc owners are excluded, and saves do not carry over from PS4 or Xbox One to the new builds. Players who bought through the Omertà Collection or the Mafia trilogy bundle may need to add the new version to their library from the storefront page before it appears.

On Steam, the October 8 update for Mafia III: Definitive Edition targets bugs players had reported, including progression blockers in the "Get Enzo Conti," "Kill Tommy Marcano" and Epilogue missions, plus crashes when driving into the Wharf or shooting a gas canister during "Destroy Boosted Car Shipment." Settings gain new frame-rate caps of 120, 144, 180 and 240, a switch to remove window borders and better multi-monitor handling in windowed mode. Most entries are stability and polish items, so the patch is maintenance more than new content.

A sale runs alongside, 80 percent off the digital edition on PlayStation, Steam and Xbox, based on 2K's list price. PlayStation's offer ends October 21 at 11:59 p.m. PT, Steam's October 22 at 10 a.m. PT and Xbox's October 29 at 10 a.m. PT. The studio gave no dollar figure, so the final price depends on each storefront's regional listing.
