Google Cloud Gemini Agent is a new workplace assistant meant to replace a patchwork of separate chatbots, coding tools and automation bots with one agent that takes a goal and returns finished work. It handles questions, document work, image and media creation, and code.

At the Gemini at Work 2026 event, Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian made delegation the core idea: hand over a goal, leave, and collect the result. The agent decides on the steps and the tools, reaches into company software, and keeps going in the cloud for hours or days. Google says Google Cloud Gemini Agent follows a user between phone, browser, desktop app, terminal, Workspace, Microsoft 365 and Slack, with one memory behind all of them.

For Workspace customers, Google Cloud Gemini Agent works within Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, Chat and Calendar rather than in a separate window, according to Google. A user can also describe a job and have it create a coworker agent, which Google says receives its own account, mailbox, calendar and directory entry and can read only what teammates share. Reaching systems beyond Google relies on connectors and on Model Context Protocol servers.

Model choice is the other selling point. Google says Google Cloud Gemini Agent assigns each task to whichever model suits it, mixing Gemini models with Anthropic's Claude now and promising other private and open models later. Cost controls include automatic routing and a per-project budget ceiling in the Cloud Billing Console that halts the project's agent when reached.

The first vertical versions are in preview. Google Cloud says Gemini for Financial Services, built with more than 50 foundational skills, draws on FactSet, LSEG, S&P Global and SEC filings and shows confidence scores and data lineage. The legal version inherits matter-level permissions and ethical walls from document platforms such as NetDocuments and iManage. Government, healthcare and retail versions are listed as coming soon. The announcement gives no pricing and no general availability date for Google Cloud Gemini Agent itself, and the customer results it cites, such as a cut from one hour to five minutes in document review at Bradesco, are Google's own figures from Gemini Enterprise deployments rather than measurements of this agent.
