The 1Password for Agents platform lets a personal AI agent sign in to a website without ever receiving the password. When the agent reaches a login screen, it asks for the credential, the account owner approves the request, and 1Password fills the password or one-time code straight into the sign-in page.
The usual workarounds both fall short, 1Password says. Taking over the agent session to type credentials by hand is slow, and pasting a password into a prompt gives the agent access to the credential, potentially beyond the task at hand. Nor do browser-saved passwords help, the company says: people who rely on them have found that their agents can't use them, so the agent stops at each login until a person signs in.
An agent proves its identity to 1Password with a unique digital key, and the user sees which credential it wants and why. If several saved logins match, the user picks one. After the website accepts the login, 1Password removes the credential so the agent can't read or reuse it. Connecting an agent doesn't open the rest of the vault, and how often a person gets asked to approve may vary by integration. With 1Password for Agents, what the agent can do once it's inside the account still depends on the agent and the site. Because the credentials stay in the one vault, a changed password is updated once and every connected agent picks up the current login.
1Password for Agents is currently available at no extra cost for 1Password Individual and Family accounts on 1Password.com. Accounts on 1Password.eu and 1Password.ca aren't currently supported, and availability, platforms and capabilities vary by partner integration. The first integrations are staggered:
| Agent | Status |
|---|---|
| Muse (Meta) | Rolling out over the coming days, all platforms |
| Grok Bot (SpaceXSI) | Rolling out over the coming days, all platforms |
| Claude Duet (Anthropic) | Coming soon |
| ChatGPT Work and dots (OpenAI) | Coming soon |
| Townie (Town) | Web and iOS coming soon |
Nine more are listed as coming soon: Instinct, Browserbase, Browser Use, Dana, KERNEL, Perplexity, Ramp, Tomo and Wajo. The safeguards and controls in 1Password for Agents differ from one integration to the next, the company adds.
Anyone whose agent isn't on the list can join a waitlist, and agent makers can contact 1Password's partnerships team to build an integration of their own.
