Bambu Lab and Insta360 launched the Luna Ultra Design Challenge on MakerWorld on July 10, releasing official 3MF and STL design files for Insta360's flagship dual-lens 8K gimbal camera and inviting makers worldwide to build custom 3D-printed accessories.

The joint contest, announced by Bambu Lab and Insta360, makes Insta360 the first camera brand to establish an official presence on MakerWorld, Bambu Lab's maker platform for the 3D printing community. Submissions run through August 9, with 40 prizes totaling US$11,160 across two tracks and winners announced August 20.

Track A is for 3D designers and engineers. Participants download the official Luna Ultra design files from MakerWorld and build precision-fit accessories in two categories: practical add-ons such as stability mounts and filming rigs, and creative mods including aesthetic covers and themed stylistic upgrades. Bambu Lab's 1-click printing via the Bambu Handy app lets other community members immediately reproduce winning designs. Track B requires no printer: creators share concepts, photos, videos, sketches, or written ideas on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, or Reddit using the hashtags #PrintForLuna, #BambuLab, and #Insta360LunaUltra.

Top prizes in Track A pair hardware from both companies. The most original design wins a Luna Ultra Creator Bundle valued at US$969.99 alongside a Bambu Lab X2D Combo worth US$899, per Bambu Lab and Insta360. Best functional and best aesthetic winners each receive a Luna Ultra Standard Bundle (US$769.99) and an A2L Combo (US$569). Twenty social-track Spotlight Awards add US$50 coupons from each brand. One submission from either track may also be selected for development as an official commercial product.

"We see a shift where creativity doesn't stop at capturing images; it extends into building and shaping the tools themselves," said Max Richter, co-founder and vice president of marketing at Insta360. For Bambu Lab, the partnership brings Insta360's Luna Ultra into MakerWorld's catalog of manufacturer-supported design targets, a category the platform had not previously served with official camera-brand files.
