Samsung Wallet can now lock, unlock and start select GM vehicles from a compatible Galaxy phone in the U.S. and Canada, beginning with the 2025-2027 Cadillac LYRIQ, the 2026-2027 OPTIQ and the 2027 VISTIQ.
Samsung said more GM models will follow before the end of the year. The feature leans on Ultra-Wideband and Bluetooth Low Energy: with a key enabled in Samsung Wallet, the car unlocks as the owner walks up and locks again on the way out, and the phone stays in a pocket.
Lending a car works from the same Samsung Wallet app. The owner sets permissions for a second driver and can withdraw access remotely. If a phone goes missing, Samsung Find on a computer can suspend or delete the key. Samsung says the keys sit in the phone's embedded Secure Element, with Knox layered on top, and that they meet EAL6+ certification, a rating it describes as protection against side-channel attacks.
The phone is the real filter. Ultra-Wideband ships only on select Galaxy models, and Samsung's list covers the Note20 Ultra, the Plus and Ultra versions of the S21 through S26 (plus the S25 Edge) and the Z Fold line, TriFold included. Base S-series phones and Z Flip models do not appear on it, so a Samsung Wallet key will not reach every Galaxy owner who drives a supported Cadillac.
The carmaker's side of the rollout is already moving. GM said in September that its digital key also works with Apple Wallet and Google Wallet, and that the phased Cadillac release runs from September 10 through mid-October. Setup takes the vehicle's mobile app and the physical fob, with the owner inside an OnStar-connected car. GM also says a key can be shared with up to seven additional devices.
The next dated step lands in December. GM says availability widens then to the 2026-2027 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, and the 2027 Escalade, Escalade IQ, Escalade IQL and CELESTIQ. Samsung Wallet's own wording is looser: more models by the end of the year, with no list attached.
