Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launched worldwide on October 23 with Kill Block, a multiplayer map whose sections rearrange between matches and, in Gunfight, between rounds.
Xbox says Kill Block is built from three modular sections inside the West Bridge Advanced Military Training Facility: two outer End Slabs and one Central Slab. Re-pairing them after each match yields more than 500 configurations at launch. Most sections are new. Others recreate Crash from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Storage Town from the Verdansk map in Warzone, and Shoot House from Modern Warfare (2019), now surrounded by different neighbors.
Activision's earlier map breakdown fills in the physical details. A finished three-slab map is roughly the size of the Shoot House map, and certain slabs run simulated rain or snow that changes visibility. Weapons react too: ice particles or a wet sheen build up on a gun until the player reloads or swaps it.
In Gunfight the map also changes mid-match. The game ships both 3v3 and 10v10 versions, with single-life rounds and no custom loadouts: every player on the map gets the same randomly assigned weapons and equipment. Teams swap sides after round one. After round two the slabs rearrange and a fresh loadout is dealt, and that cycle repeats every two rounds until one side reaches six wins. A match therefore runs six to eleven rounds. Over that span, players fight on three to six layouts. If a round times out with both teams alive, an Overtime Flag appears, and a team wins by capturing it or by holding the health advantage when time runs out.
At launch, Kill Block supports the Gunfight modes. The facility is designed to host more core multiplayer modes in post-launch seasons, per Xbox. The rest of the multiplayer lineup has 12 core maps, with two returning favorites added shortly after launch, plus Ground War with armored vehicles and four smaller Gunfight maps.
The game is on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, playable on both at no extra cost through Xbox Play Anywhere. It is also on Steam, Battle.net, Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5, but not on Xbox One. In the US, the standard edition costs $69.99 and the Vault Edition $99.99. Among other items, the Vault Edition adds four Hostile Alliance operator skins, four Special Forces skins with local-language voice packs and five signature weapons. It also includes a season of BlackCell, available once the Season 1 Battle Pass is live in the game. Modern Warfare 4 is not on Xbox Game Pass this year, and online multiplayer on Xbox requires a Game Pass Essential subscription, sold separately. The PC version requires TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot, and Activision says other security measures may be enforced.
