QuAgent Beta turns QNAP's NAS software into something its users can talk to. The agent runs on the NAS itself and takes plain-language requests such as "Find videos added last week", which an assistant called Aina converts into actions inside the system's own apps.
One prompt can now span File Station, QuMagie, Hybrid Backup Sync and the Hyper Data Protection series, the apps QNAP names as QuAgent's core integrations. The company says this collapses workflows that used to mean opening each app in turn into a single request, and that a task run in conversation can be saved as a recurring job under My Schedules. A screen-awareness feature also lets users ask about whichever application window is open.
The scope reaches well past file search. QNAP lists drive-health and storage-pool checks, security scans that flag risky settings with recommended actions, and backup jobs for Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace mail and drives. Through QuLog, QuAgent can pull login and access records filtered by time, user or source IP and summarize anything that looks abnormal. Aina can also answer setup questions from QNAP's How To tutorials, which sit in a cloud knowledge base.
Data handling depends on the model in use: administrators control the options in AI Service Center, and QNAP says the model can also be changed from the chat interface. With an on-premises model, QNAP says inference stays on the NAS and file content never reaches an outside service. With a cloud model, only the content a conversation needs goes to the model service the administrator configured. Every tool call carries the asking user's permissions, conversations are isolated per user, and deleting files or changing settings always prompts for confirmation. QNAP also records the user, tool, time and result of each action for auditing.
QuAgent installs from the App Center and needs QTS 6.1 or QuTS hero h6.1 or later plus AI Service Center, according to QNAP's QuAgent requirements, and each task also needs its own app, such as Hybrid Backup Sync, QuMagie or QuLog Center. Support covers three hardware groups.
| Hardware group | Examples |
|---|---|
| x86 NAS, x74 series and above | TS-x74 series, TVS-h874 |
| TVS-AI series | TVS-AIh1688ATX |
| QAI Edge AI Storage Server series | QAI-h1290FX, QAI-16700 |
A NAS using a cloud model needs no GPU. Running a model locally is a different matter: QNAP recommends a compatible GPU to keep responses quick, and the list of available on-premises models and their resource needs appears in AI Service Center.
