Invincible VS gets its third DLC fighter on October 13, when Angstrom Levy joins the roster as the game's 21st playable character. He arrives with Season 2 as a zoning fighter, a style built on controlling space with setups and traps.
Invincible VS executive producer Mike Willette says the team started from the portals, because they are central to why the character is dangerous in the Invincible universe. They work on offense, on defense and for movement, and a carefully placed one can become a trap. Angstrom also summons and commands orbs, and the portals and orbs react to each other in ways meant to reward experimentation. Willette describes the goal as leaving opponents unsure where on screen is safe to stand.
Invincible VS is a 3v3 tag fighter, and Willette argues that a space-controlling character adds to the planning that teammates and assists already demand, with "seriously chaotic situations" as the result. The audience he describes is players who like to think several steps ahead. The announcement gives no move list, damage figures or price, so how strong Angstrom is, or how hard he is to learn, is not yet known.
In the Invincible universe, Angstrom was a brilliant human who could cross between dimensions until an accident left him with an oversized, disfigured brain and the memories of his alternate selves from across the multiverse. Unable to separate his own experiences from those of his variants, he gradually came apart mentally, and he now blames the title hero, Invincible, for what happened to him.
Players do not have to wait for the release to try him. Angstrom Levy will be playable at Evo France this October for the first time, ahead of his launch on the 13th.
Invincible VS is the debut title from Quarter Up, the first in-house studio at Skybound Games, led by former members of the core development team on the 2013 Killer Instinct. The Xbox listing covers Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and Xbox Cloud, as an Xbox Play Anywhere title. Against the characters already on the roster, the open question is whether portals and orbs make Angstrom a safe pick or a demanding one.
