Nothing OS 5.0 is now rolling out to Phone (3) as a stable release built on Android 17. The October 12 start ends an open beta that began on August 26, according to the company's own rollout table.

Per Nothing, the stable build carries the full Nothing OS 5.0 package: a redesigned Launcher, the Micrographics clock face, a refreshed design system, deeper personalization, smoother performance and improved Essential AI tools. Nothing also credited beta testers for feedback that shaped the final build.

The visual changes are the real news. Nothing's schedule says the redesigned Launcher and the Micrographics clock face were held back from the open beta, so beta testers never saw them. Android 17 adds its own pieces, including separate Notifications and Quick Settings panels, Quick Share links that open on an iPhone through a QR code, and a three-color indicator system that flags sensitive access, location sharing and AI data processing.

If you own a Phone (3), open Settings, then System, then System update. If the update is not there yet, the staggered rollout may not have reached your device. Nothing says availability varies by region and device.

Everyone else waits. The rollout table lists Phone (4a) Pro, Phone (4a), Phone (3a) Pro and Phone (3a) for general release in early November. Phone (2a) and Phone (2a) Plus follow in mid-November, after their betas start in mid-October. Phone (3a) Lite is slated for late December, with Phone (4b) and CMF Phone 2 Pro in mid-January. Nothing labels every date indicative. Phone (1), Phone (2) and CMF Phone 1 have reached the end of major software support and will not receive Nothing OS 5.0.

Installing the update does not finish the job, either. Updates to Essential Space ship separately through Google Play, with MCP support planned in October and the redesigned capture flow from November, and the Essential Apps builder is still in early beta with access opening gradually. A Phone (3) owner who updates today still has part of the Essential AI toolkit to wait for.
