Citroën 2 CV Concept Previews an Electric Small Car with a €15,000 Target

Citroën showed the 2 CV Concept at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, a 3.76-meter electric city car that previews a production model that Citroën plans to add to its range no later than 2028. The target starting price is around €15,000 (about $16,800 at the October 12 exchange rate), a number that matters more than any styling cue in a European market where new electric cars keep getting bigger and dearer.

Citroën describes the car as the start of a new class of small electric cars built to the coming European E-Car regulations and slotted between the Ami quadricycle and the C3. The company says the car would be made in Europe and that engineers are aiming for a weight of about one tonne, because less mass allows a smaller, cheaper battery. Citroën CEO Xavier Chardon framed the project as a reinvention of the original's simplicity and accessibility rather than a replica. Citroën has published no battery capacity, range, motor output or charging figures for the concept.

Cost control shows up in the design choices Citroën describes. Body surfaces are flat, the bumpers are separate from the bodywork, and each can be replaced on its own, which points at cheaper repairs after a parking knock. The 2 CV Concept is also shorter than the original Citroën 2 CV, with 18-inch steel wheels and Michelin tires that carry a chevron pattern. Citroën credits its partner Michelin with a "universal digital twin of the tire" that lets the car monitor tire condition continuously and adjust its behavior to the surroundings.

Inside, there is no conventional dashboard. A single cylinder carries a one-spoke steering wheel, one control lever, a paddle gear selector and a driver display, with an 8-inch square touchscreen alongside. A removable basket replaces the center console, door handles are fabric straps, the front seat pulls out, the seats use Citroën Advanced Comfort cushioning, and a detachable radio called Radioën doubles as a portable speaker. The door pockets are shaped to hold eggs, a reference to the original brief. A windscreen inscription marks the original's 1948 launch, the end of its production in 1990 and this concept's 2026 debut.

Paris concepts often shed their gimmicks before production, and Citroën has not said which of these features will reach the road car. The €15,000 target and the 2028 deadline are the commitments to check against, since the straps and the egg pockets can disappear without changing the story.
