Vimeo Adds Bulk Privacy Controls and Clearer Labels Across Its Video Platform

Vimeo has overhauled its privacy controls with bulk folder settings, redesigned labels, and interactive thumbnail icons that put access decisions closer to the content.

Vimeo has shipped seven updates to its privacy controls, making video access settings available at more touchpoints in the workflow and adding bulk operations for teams managing large content libraries.

The most significant addition is bulk folder control, released in July: Vimeo users can now change the privacy setting for an entire folder at once, or select a group of videos and apply a new setting from the bulk action bar. That removes a one-at-a-time editing requirement that applied to all Vimeo libraries regardless of size. A companion update released in May brought privacy editing into the video upload modal, so access decisions can be set before a video finishes processing.

Vimeo also reworked its privacy label language. The setting formerly called "Hide from Vimeo" has been renamed "Embed only," a label that more directly describes the option's behavior: the video cannot be found through Vimeo search but remains playable when embedded on an external site. According to Vimeo, all underlying access controls are unchanged; only the label name changed.

Several earlier updates address where privacy controls appear in the interface. Privacy status icons were added to video thumbnails in January, and those icons became interactive in March: clicking one from the Vimeo dashboard changes the setting without opening the full video page. A parallel July update made the privacy field permanently reachable from the Vimeo video page itself.

For Vimeo Enterprise accounts, the platform introduced a sharing tier called "Anyone at my company" in March. The option grants access to all users within an organization in a single step, without individual invitations or shareable links. Vimeo positioned the feature for teams distributing internal content at scale, including company training materials and organization-wide announcements.

Will Bunker, who manages product communications at Vimeo, described the batch as part of an iterative rebuild driven by user feedback. Ongoing Vimeo product changes are tracked at vimeo.com/product-updates.
