Hexagon HYPERSCAN SR Is a Fully Wireless 3D Scanner for On-Site Inspection

Hexagon HYPERSCAN SR is a fully wireless optical-tracking 3D scanner with WiFi 6 and swappable batteries, built for inspection on the shop floor and in the field.

Hexagon HYPERSCAN SR takes the cables out of optical-tracking 3D scanning, so inspectors can measure parts where they sit instead of hauling them to a metrology room. The company's Portable Metrology Division introduced the scanner on October 12 as the cheapest way into its HYPERSCAN line.

Optical tracking is what keeps a scan steady when the part moves or the floor vibrates. It has usually meant a tethered setup and a specialist to run it. The Hexagon HYPERSCAN SR tracks the scanner and the part together in one coordinate system, and the scanner and the tracker both have wireless networking and swappable batteries built in, so there is no accessory box and no cable to route. That matters in tight or power-limited spots, such as a supplier's dock or a machine in service, where a larger rig will not fit.

Hexagon is aiming the SR at small and medium parts: welded machine frames, cast housings, tooling, fixtures and vehicle interiors. Hexagon says the units use WiFi 6, scan at up to 4 million points per second without target stickers, and weigh 1.3 kg without the battery. Volumetric accuracy starts at 0.06 mm at 3.2 m, with data certified to VDI/VDE 2634-3. Those are the vendor's figures, and no independent test accompanies them.

Hexagon HYPERSCAN SR is built for operators who are not metrologists. Controls sit on the scanner, a voice assistant offers guidance, and finished point clouds export to STL and other common formats, with one-click transfer to Geomagic or PolyWorks. A standard integrator kit also lets it work with robotic automation, and all three HYPERSCAN models share one workflow and coordinate system. The two siblings are Ultra, the production workhorse, and Super, which adds range for the largest parts and automated inspection cells.

The Hexagon HYPERSCAN SR is on sale globally through Hexagon and its resellers starting October 12. No price accompanies the launch, though Hexagon calls it a highly affordable entry point. For a shop deciding between cabled and wireless tracking, that missing number is the one that will settle it.
