iMac with M6 Starts at $1,499 and 14-Inch MacBook Pro at $1,999

The M6 adds two CPU and two GPU cores, and the base 16GB MacBook Pro gets less memory bandwidth than its 24GB and 32GB builds.

Apple's iMac with M6 starts at $1,499 in the U.S., and the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 starts at $1,999. Pre-orders open October 28, with the first deliveries set for November 6.

The M6 adds two cores to both the CPU and the GPU over the previous generation, so the top builds carry 12 of each, and each GPU core has its own Neural Accelerator. Apple says the MacBook Pro's GPU is up to 30 percent faster on graphics and up to 25 percent faster on AI workloads than the M5 model. Apple's iMac figures are bigger, up to 2x on graphics and up to 5x on on-device AI, but they are measured against M4, so the two machines' gains are not like for like.

The MacBook Pro offers one M6 chip option, starting with 16GB of memory and a 1TB SSD. Apple lists 153GB/s of memory bandwidth for that base build. The faster 170GB/s needs 24GB or 32GB.

Apple rates battery life at up to 24 hours of video streaming, which it says varies by use and configuration. Above the M6 model, the 14-inch line keeps its M5 Pro and M5 Max options, and the 16-inch model comes only with those chips. Education buyers pay $1,899, and eligible U.S. customers can lease the laptop through Apple Upgrade from $38.99 a month over 36 months.

The iMac with M6 starts at $1,499 with a 10-core CPU and GPU. The 12-core build costs $1,699. Memory starts at 16GB and goes up to 24GB on the cheaper build or 32GB on the other. Only the pricier build offers up to 2TB of storage.

The iMac has a 24-inch 4.5K display and comes in seven colors. It supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, with 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet on some configurations.

Education pricing for the iMac is $1,449 and $1,599. Eligible U.S. customers can lease it from $28.99 a month over 36 months. Orders open in 35 countries and regions, and both machines arrive in Apple Stores and at Authorized Resellers the same day they reach customers.
