Amazon Adds Alexa Photo Frame and Echo Time Alarm Clock to Its Device Lineup

The new Echo Dot doubles as a smart home hub and an extender for eero networks, Echo Time's smart alarm senses lighter sleep without a wearable, and Echo Show 16 ships later this year.

Amazon's newest Alexa lineup has five devices: an Alexa Photo Frame, a nightstand alarm clock called Echo Time, a new Echo Dot, an Echo Studio with a built-in camera and a redesigned 16-inch Echo Show. All five run the latest Alexa.

The new Echo Dot costs $99.99. Amazon built a smart home hub into it for the first time, plus an eero Wi-Fi extender that adds up to 1,000 square feet of coverage to an existing eero network. The hub supports Zigbee, Matter and Thread. The AZ3 chip handles on-device AI, a fourth microphone helps Alexa hear across a room, and a full-range driver built into the housing gives 50% more bass than the last generation. Kids editions start at $109.99 with a year of Amazon Kids+.

Echo Studio with Home Camera costs $249.99, which is $30 more than the standard Echo Studio at $219.99. That model stays on sale. The camera is the main difference. Per Amazon, Alexa can explain the rules when someone holds up a board game box, recognize a cereal box to reorder it, and show the room through Live View in the Alexa app. Video calls through a compatible Fire TV come later.

Echo Time costs $199.99 and has no camera. Its round 3.2-inch touchscreen offers hundreds of clock faces, from analog dials to characters from franchises such as Harry Potter and Batman. The smart alarm is optional. When it is on, Alexa detects lighter sleep and wakes the sleeper at some point within 10 to 60 minutes of the set time. Ultrasound that picks up breathing and proximity does the sensing, alongside room temperature and presence sensors, so no wearable is involved. Amazon says Echo Time earned the National Sleep Foundation's SleepMark designation. The Kids version starts at $209.99.

The Alexa Photo Frame syncs with Amazon Photos and has a 10-inch anti-glare touchscreen. Amazon calls it the first photo frame with Alexa built in, so the frame can be asked for pictures of a person, a pet or a trip. Alexa+ chooses shots by faces, time and sentiment, favors smiles and the current season, and skips screenshots and receipts. Prices start at $199.99 for the black frame and $229 for real birch or walnut.

Echo Show 16 is the only one sold on preorder, and it begins shipping later this year. It costs $499.99, or $569.99 with the Nanomatte screen, and preorders get $100 off. The display has 10% more viewing area than the Echo Show 15, and Amazon says the Nanomatte option cuts glare by more than 90%. The camera's Visual ID range more than doubles, from 8 feet to as much as 17, and night vision arrives on an Echo Show for the first time.
