Razer Basilisk V4 Pro Adds 14 Buttons and 8,000 Hz Wireless Polling

Razer Basilisk V4 Pro adds 14 programmable controls, a new scroll wheel and 8,000 Hz polling from $169.99, plus a simpler V4 HyperSpeed.

The Razer Basilisk V4 Pro is the company's next ergonomic gaming mouse, launched alongside a simpler sibling called the Basilisk V4 HyperSpeed. The Basilisk V4 Pro keeps the thumb-rest shape of earlier generations but adds a third side button, a new edge button and a redesigned scroll wheel.

Button count is where the redesign shows first. Razer's own launch material lists 14 programmable inputs on the Razer Basilisk V4 Pro, with the multi-function trigger moved for a more natural reach. Razer says the mouse still comes out 12 g lighter than its predecessor despite the extra hardware.

The scroll wheel gets the most attention. Razer calls it the HyperScroll Tilt Wheel Gen-2, and it offers a 24-step tactile mode, a finer 48-step mode meant for cycling hotbars, a free-spin mode, and a Smart-Reel setting that switches between tactile and free-spin based on how fast the user scrolls. Those behaviors, plus a virtual acceleration option with five levels, are tuned in Razer Synapse.

On performance, Razer rates the Focus Pro 50K Gen-3 optical sensor at up to 50,000 DPI, 930 IPS and 90 G acceleration, and says the Razer Basilisk V4 Pro reaches 8,000 Hz polling in both wireless and wired modes. Optical switches are rated for 100 million clicks. Battery life is listed at up to 200 hours over its wireless link at 1,000 Hz and up to 275 hours over Bluetooth, with connections to as many as five devices. All of those figures are the manufacturer's, not independent test results. Razer also pairs the high polling rate with a Frame Sync feature it says lowers latency and improves battery efficiency.

Razer's product page prices the Razer Basilisk V4 Pro from $169.99 in the United States, with $25 of store credit for buyers who order during launch week. A new Mouse Dock V2 Pro charging dock, which includes an 8,000 Hz transceiver and 8-zone Chroma lighting, launches alongside it.

The Basilisk V4 HyperSpeed is the stripped-down option. Razer lists it at 94 g with a Focus X 33K sensor, 12 programmable controls and up to 140 hours of battery life. Razer's launch material gives no price for it.

The split is clear on paper: the Razer Basilisk V4 Pro carries the denser button layout, the fastest sensor and the longer battery rating, while the HyperSpeed trades those for a simpler build. Owners of the Basilisk V3 Pro, which Razer lists as compatible with the new dock, get the scroll wheel and extra buttons as the main new reasons to upgrade, and the sensor and battery claims still need independent testing.
