RuneScape Reignited arrives on December 2, and Jagex says the new permanent character type will have its own economy, its own hiscores and no paid progression. Existing characters stay as they are.
As Jagex lays it out, Reignited characters share worlds with existing ones, which the studio labels Veteran characters, and the two groups can chat and join the same clans and homesteads. The separation starts at the economy. Reignited characters get a Grand Exchange of their own and cannot trade with Veterans, and the two types do not share boss instances. Nobody can convert a character from one type to the other, since the studio says that would compromise the separate economies.
Jagex presents RuneScape Reignited as a restart that still sits on 25 years of content, and it arrives in one update with the Adventure Guide and the next step in the studio's remaster of the early game. The studio argues that a fresh economy frees players from the weight of a mature one. It also concedes a cost: items Veterans hold in abundance may be harder for Reignited characters to find, which Jagex treats as an opening for anyone who wants to build a character around sourcing and crafting.
Competition gets its own stage in the Hall of Legends. Jagex says every world-first achievement opens up again to players on RuneScape Reignited, and anyone who lands one gets a permanent statue of their character.
Jagex says RuneScape Reignited, like Ironman, needs its own membership, and the announcement does not say what that will cost. The studio is offering every Reignited character free access to members' worlds from December 2 through December 12. On the microtransaction side, Treasure Hunter left the game in January, and Jagex says no paid items that undermine the game's integrity will remain once Reignited launches. Reignited characters can still buy cosmetic overrides through the marketplace but not Radiant stars, the studio says. It also prohibits gold swapping into or out of Reignited and promises more on rules and cheating before launch.
Jagex's own FAQ asks whether RuneScape Reignited will split the playerbase, and the studio says it should not, because both character types share worlds. It is also working to let every world hold more players with less lag. There is no set plan to merge the two economies, the studio says, though all options stay open. The design walls off the economy and keeps the crowd together, so the argument rests on how the shared worlds hold up once the update lands.
