Sennheiser is becoming Formula E's Official Sound Provider under a multi-year partnership that brings the audio company's AMBEO immersive-sound technology into the racing series' broadcasts, trackside operations and fan zones. The deal covers the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship and pairs Sennheiser's professional audio hardware with Formula E's broadcast and hospitality operations, across a series now in its 11th season, according to Sennheiser.
The partnership centers on AMBEO, Sennheiser's audio-capture and encoding ecosystem for three-dimensional sound. Formula E and Sennheiser plan to apply it to in-car and trackside audio during races, aiming to give broadcast viewers a more spatial sense of the GEN4-era cars' sound than a standard stereo feed provides. Kai Detlefsen, who manages AMBEO at Sennheiser, said the system is built to capture and reproduce natural three-dimensional sound for more immersive, emotionally engaging broadcasts.
Formula E CTO Dan Cherowbrier framed the deal as a way to close a gap between the series' visual production and its audio, calling Sennheiser's AMBEO ecosystem "a uniquely dynamic setting to explore the future of sound in racing." Sennheiser Group CEO Andreas Sennheiser said the collaboration lets the company test advanced audio technology in a live sports environment, calling the partnership "about learning, exploring and helping to shape the future of how live sport is experienced."
Beyond broadcast, the agreement extends to Formula E's onsite fan zones and VIP hospitality areas, where Sennheiser plans to deploy its audio systems for race weekends. Neither company disclosed the deal's financial terms, describing it only as multi-year. The partnership adds Sennheiser to Formula E's list of technical partners as the all-electric championship keeps courting audio and technology companies to raise its broadcast production value against longer-established motorsport series.
