Stone Kite launched on Oct. 1 with a four-part comic series called One Zero One, the first universe from a studio that Halo and Destiny creator Jason Jones started with author Margaret Stohl.

Per Stone Kite, Jones is co-founder and Stohl is co-founder and CEO of what the company bills as a world-building studio. Its advisor list reads like a cross-section of games and film: Jen Oneal, formerly co-leader of Blizzard, Coddy Johnson, formerly Activision Blizzard's president and chief operating officer, and director Jay Roach. Stone Kite lists Griffin Gaming Partners, its co-founders and angel investors as backers.

The studio's own framing steers clear of the word "transmedia." Its approach description says the term usually covers "multiple adaptations of a single story," whereas Stone Kite says it builds the world first and offers audiences separate doors into one connected universe, such as comics, fiction or podcasts. The same page promises that "the creative heart of our work stays human," a notable line for a debut built around machines turning on their makers.

That debut is One Zero One, a near-future conflict between humanity and a rogue army of AI-driven robot soldiers. According to the studio's series page, issue #1 runs eighty pages, adapts Jones's novel An Oral History of Humanity's Final Invention, and is written by Eric Heisserer, the screenwriter behind Arrival and Bird Box. Stone Kite says new issues will be released free online through early 2027, with print editions open for pre-order. Dan Panosian, Ramón Pérez, Alitha Martinez, Raúl Allén and Hyeonjin Kim share the art.

Reading happens on a platform that borrows from games. Stone Kite's reader platform offers registered users progress tracking, seasonal rewards and a "Here since Day Zero" perk for accounts created during Season 1, and it points readers to a Discord server. Game-style engagement layered over a comic is a telling choice for a studio whose founders and advisors come largely from games.

Stone Kite also says additional media projects will follow through the year but has not named their formats. Whether the Halo and Destiny pedigree eventually produces a game is therefore an open question, and the first thing readers can judge is whether issue #2, listed as coming soon without a date, arrives on the studio's schedule.
