Toshiba has begun shipping nearline hard disk drives from a second Philippine facility, the first output of an expansion meant to nearly double its annual capacity by fiscal 2027.

The drives left the Laguna Technopark plant of Toshiba Information Equipment (Philippines), known as TIP, a site that previously concentrated on HDDs for personal computers. Nearline models are the high-capacity drives sold into data centers for AI and cloud workloads, and Laguna Technopark now gives TIP a second location for them beyond its Carmelray Industrial Park facility. For the Laguna operation, then, the mix is moving from PC storage toward the data center.

Toshiba says TIP aims to nearly double its annual production capacity by fiscal 2027 compared with fiscal 2025, counted on a storage capacity basis. That wording suggests total terabytes rather than drive count, so higher-capacity models could lift the figure without a matching rise in units. Toshiba gives no unit volumes, per-drive capacities, investment amount or line count, and it does not say how much of the increase will come from Laguna Technopark.

The shipment landed alongside TIP's 30th anniversary. The company began operating on October 1, 1996, building 2.5-inch HDDs for PCs, and added 1.8-inch models in 2001. It now supplies customers around the world and received the Billionaire's Award at the PEZA Excellence Awards five years running, from 2019 to 2023.

A ceremony in Manila drew about 250 guests, among them Philippine government representatives, suppliers and business partners. TIP president Kenichi Myokan called the first shipment from the expanded line "an important milestone" and said the site will keep serving the data infrastructure that AI demands. TIP will also take part in the PSECE exhibition at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City from October 26 to 28.
