Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is set for release on October 23, 2026, with Vault Edition pre-orders receiving Campaign Early Access starting October 16, a week before the full launch.
The early access window is tied exclusively to the Vault Edition upgrade tier, not the standard pre-order. Per the official Modern Warfare 4 product page, Vault Edition buyers also receive the Hunter Killer Operator Skin, Hostile Alliance Operator Pack, Special Forces Operator Pack, Signature Weapon Collection, one season of BlackCell, and a DMZ Deployment Bonus. The standard edition includes only Beta Early Access and does not include Campaign Early Access.
The campaign itself is set on the Korean Peninsula, following a North Korean invasion. Players control Private Park, a young South Korean soldier deployed into front-line combat for the first time, with a parallel storyline following Captain Price operating outside official channels. The narrative structure mirrors the dual-protagonist approach used across earlier Modern Warfare entries, where each campaign strand carries a distinct tone: ground-level infantry versus special-operations tradecraft.
Multiplayer launches day one with 12 all-new 6v6 maps. Activision's headline technical feature is Ballistic Authority, described as a weapon-first technology stack that unifies aiming, handling, audio propagation, and target visibility into a single system. The design goal is deterministic gunplay, with no bloom, no guesswork, per the official copy, positioning MW4 against the perceived randomness that has been a recurring complaint from competitive players in recent Call of Duty titles.
DMZ returns as a third mode alongside Campaign and Multiplayer, framed as an extraction game in which squads recover military technology from a live combat sandbox. The combination of all three modes at launch is notable given that recent entries split modes across staggered release windows.
Nintendo Switch availability is listed as "coming soon" on the product page without a confirmed date, making Switch the only major platform without a committed launch window alongside Xbox, PC, PlayStation, Battle.net, and Steam. A 10% pre-order loyalty discount applies for players who own a Call of Duty title from 2019 or later on the same platform account, capped to pre-orders through October 23.
