Google is launching Googlebook, a new line of five premium laptops built with Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, with pricing starting at $899. According to Google, each model targets a different niche: Acer supplies the lineup's sole convertible, ASUS builds a 2.2-pound travel model, Dell balances height, weight, and display size, HP focuses on a closed-lid design, and Lenovo ships a 15-inch productivity workhorse.

Every Googlebook is built from aluminum, magnesium alloy, or carbon fiber, and Google says the touchscreens reach up to 2.8K resolution with enough brightness for outdoor viewing. Google says buyers can choose between an Intel Core Ultra Series 3 chip or a Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor, both paired with NPUs rated above 45 TOPS of on-device AI throughput, a figure the company says lets the laptops run AI workloads without triggering loud cooling fans. MediaTek is also a silicon partner for the platform, though Google has not detailed which models use its chips. RAM starts at 16GB across the portfolio, with some configurations reaching 32GB, and Google claims up to 14 hours of video playback or 16 hours of web browsing on a charge.

Google is reviving the Glowbar, a light strip that animates during boot and shows battery level, and it's opening the feature to developers who want to build custom Glowbar animations. The laptops also carry backlit keyboards, glass haptic trackpads with native OS gesture support, and up to six speakers tuned for Dolby Atmos alongside noise-canceling microphones, per Google's product page.

Every purchase bundles 12 months of Google AI Pro, which includes 5TB of cloud storage and Gemini Advanced, plus three months of YouTube Premium and Adobe Photoshop. Google also says Googlebook OS will receive feature updates for up to 10 years. Pre-orders are open now through the Google Store, Best Buy, and other retailers, with devices reaching shelves October 4 in the U.S. and October 5 in Canada, the U.K., Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia.
