Stranger Than Heaven now has a full named cast, and RGG Studio has filled it with a mix of Japanese screen actors and American music stars, from Snoop Dogg and Tori Kelly to Ado, plus a posthumous role for Tupac that his estate is supervising.
SEGA laid out the ensemble in a character rundown on the Xbox site. Yu Shirota leads as Makoto Daito, the son of an American father and a Japanese mother who stows away on a ship leaving San Francisco in 1915 and heads for his mother's homeland. Dean Fujioka plays Yu Shinjo, a fellow stowaway of Japanese and British descent who becomes Daito's partner in survival. Snoop Dogg plays Orpheus, the ship's merchant captain, whose trade is loose on legality and who spots Daito's talent for music. Akio Otsuka rounds out the core four as Heigo Yashima, a trading boss in Kokura.
The wider Stranger Than Heaven roster follows Daito through a story that spans 1915 to 1965 across five Japanese cities. Tori Kelly plays Suzy Day, a singer chasing a show business career; Ado plays Keiko Shirai, billed as the diva of wartime Osaka; Cordell Broadus plays a man stationed in postwar Japan; and Takaya Kuroda plays Takeo Godai, a quiet craftsman.
Two parts belong to performers who have died, and SEGA spells out how each was handled. The late actor Bunta Sugawara appears as Genzo Iwaki, a crime boss in Kure. SEGA says it obtained formal consent from Sugawara's family, and Toei Company, which produced many of his films including Battles Without Honor and Humanity, supplied materials. RGG Studio then built the CG design from period footage and photographs, while Takashi Ukaji, who was close to Sugawara, performs the voice.
In Stranger Than Heaven, Tupac plays Amaru, a man hiding out in Japan. According to SEGA, his estate, Amaru Entertainment, granted permission and continues to supervise the role, and RGG Studio says it is producing every part of the character in close collaboration and "without the use of AI," with a design drawn from archival footage and photographs. That process note is the most specific detail in the reveal: it describes how the likeness was made, not only who signed off on it. SEGA says more about the role will come later.
On the platform side, Xbox lists Stranger Than Heaven for January 15, 2027 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and Xbox Cloud, as an Xbox Play Anywhere title available with Xbox Game Pass. The cast post names no other platforms.
