HyperX's first open-back gaming headset, the Cloud Alpha Air, arrives in September for $149.99 with what the company calls Bass Tube technology to keep the low end punchy.
Open-back headphones trade isolation for a wider, more natural soundstage, but their low end tends to thin out because the sound freely escapes. HyperX keeps the earcups open and adds a Bass Tube that preserves the impactful low-end audio open designs typically lose, per HyperX. The company positions the result as helping players hear the details that matter, from distant footsteps and directional audio cues to subtle environmental effects.
HyperX frames the headset for power players, competitive gamers, and creators, with all-day comfort and customization through its NGENUITY software. The release also cites extensive audio customization alongside the open-back soundstage. HyperX says the Cloud Alpha Air works across tactical shooters, battle royales, and sprawling RPG worlds, with greater positional awareness and a wider soundstage in each.
HyperX presented the lineup in Los Angeles on August 20 alongside the Pulsefire Haste 3 Pro, a wireless mouse with an ultra-light 47-gram carbon-infused shell built around the new HyperX Performance Sensor, and the SoloCast 2 Pro microphone. HP's gaming division president Josephine Tan frames the lineup as gear that upgrades how players play rather than the desk around them. The release ties the expansion to HyperX's focus on immersion, precision, and communication for its community, from ranked players to streamers.
The Cloud Alpha Air is expected on HyperX.com in September, and HyperX set the price at $149.99.
