HP OmniBook 5 laptops are set to start at $699.99 and put an OLED display in a 1.16 kg aluminum body, according to HP. The release also covers the HP ProBook 4, a business laptop for small and growing companies. HP says the HP OmniBook 5 runs on up to an Intel Core 7 chip with an integrated NPU, with Core 7 models planned for mid-October.

The Windows laptop is aimed at students, young professionals and what HP calls "modern multitaskers." Samuel Chang, Senior Vice President and Division President, Consumer Personal Systems at HP Inc., says it brings together "premium design and immersive experiences with a colorful OLED display in an incredibly portable package." That is marketing language, but the spec sheet beneath it is concrete, and the display line needs the closest attention.

On the HP OmniBook 5, HP lists up to a 2.5K OLED touch display with 100% DCI-P3 coverage and up to 620 nits of brightness. HP's footnotes narrow that.

The 2K OLED version, at up to 300 nits, is the one available at launch. The 2.5K version is planned for March 2027. A buyer in October should therefore treat the sharper, brighter panel as a later option rather than a launch spec.

The company also lists an 11.77 mm profile, a 180-degree hinge and two full-function USB-C ports for the HP OmniBook 5, and points to its compact 65W USB Mini GaN charger.

Battery life is rated at up to 42 hours of local video playback, which HP says it measured with continuous 1080p video at 200 nits brightness. HP's own footnote adds that actual battery life will vary.

The laptop gets an FHD IR camera with Windows Hello facial recognition, dual microphones and Poly Studio-tuned audio with DTS:X Ultra. It comes in Smoke Silver, Starlit Blue, Peony Pink and Soft Honeydew, and HP expects the HP OmniBook 5 14 AI PC to reach HP.com and Best Buy in October.

HP bills the ProBook as its thinnest business notebook, a claim based on the company's own comparison of its commercial models. The aluminum body is 12 mm thin and starts at 2.6 lbs, in Eclipse Gray, Atmospheric Blue or Mist Silver.

The business laptop has a 14-inch 2.8K OLED display. HP lists 100% DCI-P3 color and 120Hz motion for it. The processor tier matches the consumer model at the top, with up to 17 TOPS of NPU acceleration.

Memory goes up to 32 GB and storage up to 1TB. HP also lists a 70Whr battery with HP Fast Charge and MIL-STD durability. The G2iS version is expected on HP.com in November, with pricing to be announced closer to availability.

Both new laptops lead with OLED screens, which suggests HP sees the panel as a way to separate its everyday models from the rest of the market.
