Apple's first foldable iPhone, iPhone Duo, packs a 7.6-inch inner display that opens flat and folds down to a 5.4-inch outer screen about the size of a passport. The hinge holding it together is built from more than 100 individual components and closes with an integrated magnet array, engineering meant to make folding feel as routine as unlocking a regular iPhone. The design lands years after Samsung normalized folding phones with its Galaxy Z Fold line, giving Apple a much later, but heavily engineered, entry into a category it had stayed out of.
According to Apple, the inner Super Retina XDR display carries a nano-texture coating to reduce glare, and the outer panel still covers 90 percent of the screen area on iPhone 18 Pro despite the folded footprint. iPhone Duo runs on a new A20 Pro chip paired with a custom vapor chamber for heat management and a dual battery layout split across both halves of the body, aimed at sustaining performance through gaming and multitasking on the larger inner screen. The body is machined from grade 5 titanium with a mirror-polished finish, backed by Ceramic Shield and an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.
Apple says the split battery setup delivers up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display, up to 44 hours on the outer display, or up to 24 hours with both screens in equal use. On the software side, iOS 27 reorganizes the Lock Screen, Dock, and Dynamic Island to run along the side of both displays, and adds Split View so two apps can sit side by side on an iPhone for the first time. iPhone Duo also ships with Siri AI, Apple's overhauled assistant built on Apple Intelligence, which is rolling out in beta alongside iOS 27.
"iPhone Duo is the most transformational change to iPhone since the original," said John Ternus, Apple's CEO. Pre-orders open Friday, October 16, with iPhone Duo arriving in stores a week later on October 23 across more than 70 countries, priced from $1,999 for the base 256GB configuration.
