Vanillaware and Marvelous confirmed that Muramasa: Revenant Blades will launch February 4, 2027, according to Marvelous, bringing the studio's Japanese-inspired action RPG back in a remastered edition.

The pitch is completeness, not reinvention. Muramasa: Revenant Blades combines Muramasa: Rebirth, originally a PlayStation Vita exclusive, with its side-story DLC Genroku Legends into one refined package, rendered in high-definition visuals and paired with an all-new English voice cast. Vanillaware also published a new gameplay trailer showing off the game's sword-fighting and character progression systems.

Muramasa: Revenant Blades tells six separate stories set in a supernatural version of Japan's Genroku era, and you're free to play through them in whatever order you like. One protagonist is possessed by the cursed sword Muramasa itself; another sets out to avenge a fallen master. Vanillaware says each of the six carries a self-contained arc, so newcomers and players returning from the original Vita release can jump in on their own terms.

Combat leans on chained normal attacks that flow into dashes, jumps, and timed parries, and a well-placed block can even deflect ranged strikes. A single skill button unleashes heavier single hits, wide sweeps, or ranged attacks that layer onto that same combo chain. Progression then splits along character lines: swordsmiths Kisuke and Momohime forge new blades carrying unique skills, while Okoi, Gonbe, Arashimaru, and Rajaki train instead, learning techniques and crafting charms. Both paths spend souls collected from defeated enemies, and players can carry up to three mastered skills into combat on the ground or in the air, swapping between them with the d-pad.

Beyond the main campaign, Muramasa: Revenant Blades adds a Scroll gallery of artwork, a Character Viewer for admiring animations, and a Replay mode for revisiting key story beats. A separate classic mode bundles the original PS Vita versions of Muramasa: The Demon Blade and Genroku Legends, now running with upgraded graphics, for players who would rather experience the two source titles as they first shipped.
