Amazon Echo Hub received a free software update replacing the smart display's original home screen with a fully customizable layout, and adding Ring AI's Video Search feature alongside Alexa Plus event summaries for connected cameras. Amazon told The Verge the update also includes drag-and-drop section management, granular dimming and color-wheel controls, and a quick-access Routines section on the home display.

The redesigned interface lets owners organize tiles by room or function, resize individual device tiles, and access precise controls such as 0-100% dimming levels directly from the main screen. The previous Echo Hub layout had received Alexa Plus AI support in an earlier update; the new interface integrates those AI capabilities into a cleaner, denser grid that fits more smart home information on screen. Amazon had not published a standalone newsroom announcement page at the time of publication; the update is rolling out now to existing Echo Hub devices.

The camera integration is the more substantive addition. Ring AI's Video Search brings natural-language queries to recorded smart home camera footage directly from the Echo Hub display, so a question like "show me when the package was delivered" queries the footage without manual scrubbing. Alexa Plus also generates summaries of detected camera events, surfacing contextual descriptions rather than raw motion-triggered timestamps. Both features require compatible Ring cameras and an active Alexa Plus subscription.

The update is one of the first to extend Alexa Plus camera-intelligence features to a dedicated smart home control panel rather than a general-purpose Echo device. Amazon has been steadily folding Ring capabilities into the broader Alexa ecosystem since completing its Ring acquisition; the new Echo Hub update accelerates that convergence on the display side. The Echo Hub retails for around $180 and targets households already invested in the Amazon smart home ecosystem.
