Tecno POVA 8 Pro 5G Debuts with Custom P1 Gaming Chip and Alive Matrix Display

Tecno's POVA 8 Pro 5G pairs the MediaTek Dimensity 7400 with a custom P1 Graphic Chip for up to 144FPS gaming and adds a 177-bead Mini LED Alive Matrix Display.

Tecno's POVA 8 Pro 5G pairs a dedicated P1 Graphic Chip with the MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Ultimate 5G, aiming to separate rendering and frame-interpolation workloads from general processing for sustained gaming performance. The dual-chip setup targets 144 frames per second in PUBG MOBILE at the game's Ultra Extreme setting, though that tier depends on a PUBG MOBILE update the company expects to arrive by October 2026.

The rear panel's defining element is the Alive Matrix Display, a triangular module built around 177 individually controlled Mini LED beads. According to Tecno, the system recognizes more than 49 on-device states, from incoming calls and file transfers to active gaming sessions and charging, with each scenario triggering a distinct breathing-light sequence. The module is fully user-configurable, a meaningful distinction from notification LEDs that offer only color selection.

The display is a 6.78-inch 1.5K AMOLED panel with a 144Hz refresh rate and 4500-nit peak brightness. Tecno equipped it with 2592Hz PWM dimming to reduce screen flicker at low brightness levels during extended sessions. Structural protection comes from Corning Gorilla Glass 7i and ratings of IP69K, IP69, IP68, and IP66, covering conditions from sustained high-pressure water jets to 1.5-meter immersion.

The primary camera uses a Sony LYTIA 700C sensor at 50 megapixels with optical image stabilization on a 1/1.56-inch photoreceptor. Sony's 2x2 OCL pixel arrangement groups adjacent photosites under shared micro-optics to improve autofocus precision and low-light noise performance. Tecno adds electronic stabilization on top of the OIS for a hybrid stabilization system. An 8MP ultra-wide and a 13MP front camera complete the array.

A 6500mAh battery with 45W wired charging powers the device. Tecno's internal testing puts a full charge at roughly 60 minutes, with 30 percent capacity in 14 minutes. The phone also includes a 5000mm2 vapor-chamber cooling system and FreeLink 2.0, a Bluetooth-based peer communication layer rated to 1,500 meters for voice and text without a cellular connection.

The POVA 8 Pro 5G runs HiOS 16 and ships in Tundra Green, Graphite Black, and Arc White. Its four-tier IP certification is an uncommon inclusion for gaming-focused handsets in its price segment, most of which carry splash-only ratings. The combination of full immersion protection and a gaming processor targets buyers who want competitive-level hardware without sacrificing all-conditions durability.
